Change Purse

You have now learned enough to make a small purse for carrying your change when you do not wish to carry a larger pocket-book.

MATERIALS: Use the same ball of J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen and the same hook you used for your practice pieces.

Buy a Zipper, 4 inches long to match the thread. You are now going to work in rounds (rnds) instead of rows.

This purse is begun at the center of one side.

DIRECTIONS: To begin, ch 2. 1st rnd (round): 6 s c (single crochet) in 2nd (second) ch (chain) from hook. This will form a circle. (Do not join the rounds).

2nd rnd (round): 2 s c (single crochet) in each s c (single crochet) around (12 s c in the rnd).

3rd rnd (round): * S c (single crochet) in next s c (single crochet), 2 s c (single crochet)in next s c (single cro-chet); thus increasing 1 s c. Repeat from * to end of round.

4th rnd (round): * S c in next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c (increase). Repeat from * to end of round.

5th rnd: * S c in next 3 s c, 2 s c in next s c (increase). Repeat from * to end of round.

6th to 10th rnds inclusive: Work as for 5th rnd, always making 1 s c more on each rnd between each increase. There should be 60 s c on the 10th rnd.

11th rnd: Sl st (slip stitch) in next s c. Ch 3, in same place where sl st (slip stitch) was made, make d c (double crochet), ch 1 (chain 1), and 2 d c (double crochet), thus completing a shell.*· Skip 3 s c on 10th rnd and make 2 d c (double crochet) in next s c, ch 1 (chain 1), 2 d c (double crochet) in same place as last 2 d c (double crochet), another shell made. Repeat from * to end of round. Join last shell to first shell by making a sl st (slip stitch) in 3rd (third) ch (chain) of ch 3 first made.

12th rnd: Sl st (slip stitch) in next d c (double crochet) and in next sp (space). Ch (chain) 3, in same place where last sl st (slip stitch) was made, make d c (double crochet), ch (chain) 1 and 2 d c (double crochet). A shell made over a shell: * ch 1, in next ch-1 of next shell, make 2 d c (double crochet), ch (chain) 1, and 2 d c (double crochet), another shell made over a shell. Repeat from * to end of round. Join last shell to first one by making a sl st (slip stitch) in 3rd (third) ch (chain) of ch-3 first made.

13th rnd: S c (single crochet) in same place as sl st (slip stitch), s c (single crochet) in next d c (double crochet), * s c (single crochet) in next ch (chain) 1 (s c made in space, sp) s c (single crochet) in next 2 d c (double crochet). Repeat from * to end of round. Sl st (slip stitch) in 1st s c (single crochet).

14th and 15th rnds: Ch (chain) 1, s c in each s c (single crochet) around, sl st (slip stitch) in 1st s c (single crochet) made. Fasten off.

Make another piece the same as this. Sew the 2 pieces together neatly on wrong side leaving an opening of 4 inches. Sew Zipper on both sides of opening. Line purse if desired.
