Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
2-1/2 cups cake or pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
6 egg whites

Cooking Instructions

Cream the shortening very thoroughly and add the sugar gradually; Add the milk alternately with the flour with which the baking powder and salt have been mixed and sifted. Add the flavorings and fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Turn into a deep round pan and bake in a moderate oven. Time in baking, 1-1/2 hours. Temperature, 350°. Serves 20.
