Chocolate Sponge Cake: Date Added: 12 Jun 2009

Ingredients

2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 square chocolate
1/2 cup sour milk
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup boiling water
2 egg whites

Cooking Instructions

Cream sugar with melted butter and chocolate, add milk and beat thoroughly. Add egg yolks, vanilla, flour mixed with soda and boiling water. Reserve a small portion of flour to add after the boiling water, then beat until very smooth and light. Lastly, add beaten whites. Bake in moderate oven. This makes a large loaf cake. Time in oven, 40 minutes. Temperature, 300°. Servings, 8.
