1/2 cup cocoa
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour milk
2-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup water

Cooking Instructions

Mix cocoa and sugar, and cream with shortening. Add sour milk, flour, and salt. Dissolve soda in water and add last. Beat well and bake in layers in a moderate oven. Time in oven, 25 minutes. Temperature, 350°. Servings, 12.
