Eggless Chocolate Cake: Date Added: 12 Jun 2009

1/2 cup butter or cooking oil
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup hot water
1 teaspoon soda
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cooking Instructions

Cream butter and sugar, add cocoa mixed with one-half of water, and soda in other half. Add flour with baking powder and salt. Lastly, beat in sour milk and vanilla. Bake in layers in a moderate oven. Use Chocolate Filling (see recipe) Time in oven, 30 minutes. Temperature, 350°. Servings, 10
