1-1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup uncooked rice
2 tablespoons sugar
Orange marmalade
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
4 or 5 medium sized apples
Heat the milk and water and stir in the rice. Steam until tender in a double boiler. Stir in the sugar, salt, and butter with a fork. Stew the apples, pared and cut in quarters, in a little water until soft. Line a buttered dish with the rice and place the cooked apples in the center. Then spread with two tablespoons (or more) of marmalade. Cover the top with rice and heat thoroughly in a moderate oven. Serve with milk or cream. Time in baking, 30 minutes. Temperature, 350°. Serves 6.
