2 cups stale bread crumbs
1 quart scalded milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
Soak bread crumbs in milk, add sugar, butter, egg slightly beaten, and salt. Flavor to taste and bake in a moderate oven. Time in oven, 1 hour. Temperature, 325°. Servings, 6
Variations in Bread Pudding:
Melt two squares of chocolate and add to scalded milk. Caramelize three tablespoons of sugar; dissolve in hot water to make syrup and add to the scalded milk. Add spice and raisins.
