1 cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon shortening
3 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Bring syrup to boiling point and pour into a baking dish. Cream the shortening, add sugar, egg well beaten, milk, and flour mixed and sifted with baking powder and salt. Pour batter into the syrup. Bake in a moderately hot oven until well browned. Turn upside down on a serving plate and sprinkle liberally with finely chopped nuts. Serve with plain or marshmallow cream.
Time in baking, 25 minutes. Temperature, 400°. Serves 6.
